Catching up with PRS Foundation-funded artists
Once again, PPL is at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
We are delighted to be supporting 37 UK acts at the British Music Embassy via our funding partnership with PRS Foundation as well as the overall promotion of British music abroad with our friends at the Department for International Trade, AIM, PRS for Music, BBC Music and many others.
We interviewed FiFi Rong, GoGo Penguin Pinact and Sundara Karma, some of the artists set to perform at this year's SXSW. We spoke to them about their journeys to this point and to find out a bit more about them.
FiFi Rong is a unique vocalist, songwriter and producer based in London. She has collaborated with artists including Tricky, Phaeleh and Yello and her seductive vocals can be heard on the title track of Skepta’s hugely successful UK No. 2 and Mercury Prize-winning album Konnichiwa.
Manchester-based trio GoGo Penguin are predominantly an acoustic piano trio. Their trademark mash-up of minimalist piano themes, deeply propulsive bass lines and electronica-inspired drums has seen them shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and fuelled their exhilarating live shows all over the world.
In the past year, Glaswegian trio, Pinact, has toured regularly, played at house parties and performed at popular showcases, such as New York’s CMJ Music Marathon. The band has released numerous songs on cassettes, 7” and vinyl compilations and their debut album produced by MJ of Hookworms, Stand Still and Rot, via the Brooklyn based indie Kanine Records.
Sundara Karma is an English Indie rock band from Reading. Formed in 2015, their debut album Youth Is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect
was released on 6 January 2017.
