PPL, the company responsible for the licensing of recorded music for online, broadcast and public performance use has today revealed its annual chart of the UK’s most played ‘love’ songs to help get everyone in the mood for the most romantic day of the year – Valentine’s Day.

Scottish DJ, Calvin Harris, has sent hearts racing for the second year running in the ‘PPL People Chart of Most Played songs with the word Love in their title’ with his top ten, Brit nominated chart hit ‘I Need Your Love’ featuring Ellie Goulding, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Adele and Ne-yo. Not content with leading the chart, the award winning DJ’s collaboration with Rihanna on ‘We Found Love’ (last year’s number one), also features in sixth place.

 The Scot features in the chart alongside John Newman who came second with his hit ‘Love Me Again’ and Lawson at number three with ‘Learn to Love Again’.

PPL’s charts are compiled annually using the company’s exclusive data detailing when recorded music is broadcast and used in public places such as shops, bars, restaurants, jukeboxes, gyms and offices and has been has been based on the number of times each song was played throughout 2013.

PPL processes over 3.6 billion seconds of airplay and can reveal that love is big business in the music industry, with one in every 15 songs broadcast on radio, TV and used in public places featuring the word ‘love’ or a variation of it in the title.
