PPL reveals which of the Oscar winning songs remain firm winners in the UK.

This year the song Man or Muppet from the film The Muppets took the coveted Golden Statue – but will that song one day be in the UK's most played list?

The Oscar for Best Song has gone to the crème de la crème and has featured in some of the most timeless films of all time. Jennifer Warnes can certainly claim to have the magic formula after featuring in the top two songs and the 80's is the most successful decade with the top four coming from that era. Irena Cara also appears twice with What a Feeling and Fame.

The top ten is as follows:

1) (I've Had) The Time Of My Life – Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes – Dirty Dancing
2) Up Where We Belong - Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes – An Officer & A Gentleman
3) Take My Breath Away - Berlin – Top Gun
4) What a Feeling – Irene Cara - Flashdance
5) Theme from Shaft – Isaac Hayes - Shaft
6) My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion - Titanic
7) Arthur's Theme –Christopher Cross - Arthur
8) Lose Yourself – Eminem – 8 Mile
9) Fame – Irene Cara - Fame
10) Say You, Say Me – Lionel Richie – White Nights

"This is an incredible top ten in its right and, of course, they come from ten memorable films," said Jonathan Morrish, Director of PR and Corporate Communications at PPL. "However what these great songs do is to add their own piece of indescribable magic and emotion to the films they are in and which makes them extra special! As songs they will stand the test of time and remain firm favorites' for radio programmers, the public as well as all movie buffs everywhere. It remains to be seen if Man or Muppet will one day take a place in the top ten!"

The list is compiled from PPL's exclusive data which includes TV, radio and online usage as well as songs played in bars, shops, restaurants, gyms and other public places that use music.
