PPL recognised in Employee Engagement Awards 2015

Music licensing company PPL has been named in the Reward and Recognition Award shortlist for the prestigious Employee Engagement Awards (EE Awards), which recognises businesses striving to put their workforce at the heart of their operations.

With a variety of industries represented, the awards identify organisations that have demonstrated excellent return on investment in people, innovation and employee experience. PPL has been recognised for reviewing its Reward Strategy and implementing changes that have engaged employees whilst aligning to business objectives.

An initial review of PPL’s Reward Strategy identified that the company’s employee benefit offering for its largely young and almost even gender split could be more targeted.

PPL’s vision was to raise and improve benefit awareness and increase understanding of the value of the benefits available, reduce cost, and update the current benefit offering so that it was relevant to the company’s demographic. PPL wanted employees to understand and take full advantage of the benefits available to them, as well as offer a package that would help to differentiate the company from other organisations.

After an extensive process of internal staff surveys and external research, findings were then used to develop a rewards package that better suited the wants and needs of PPL’s workforce.

As a result, PPL introduced rewards including music related activities, a holiday buy scheme and holiday entitlement increase with length of service. Shorter qualifying periods for new starters were also introduced alongside some health and social benefits.

The internal brand ‘WE ARE REWARDING’ was launched alongside a companywide ‘Total Reward’ email bulletin to communicate and raise awareness of PPL’s newly created benefits.

Following the implementation of these benefits, the most recent employee survey shows that employee engagement has reached an all-time high. This has had a positive impact on the company as a whole, as it has helped increase productivity and in turn improve the cost-effectiveness of the business.

Kate Reilly, Director of People and Organisational Development, PPL said “At PPL we believe that it is essential to listen to and engage with our staff. By understanding what our staff want and working hard to reflect these in our recognition and reward schemes, we are able to have a happy and productive workforce. Not only has this meant that we have seen a great return on our investment, but just as importantly, we have created a place where people want to work and can enjoy themselves whilst doing it.”

The winners of the Employee Engagement Awards will be announced on January 28, 2016 at The Brewery, London.
