EU and the Creative Industries
PPL works closely with the European Commission on a number of initiatives in the creative industries across the EU.
Background
Framework legislation, including intellectual property and competition, is formulated in the EU to create a single market across Europe.
The EU Work Programme of the current European Commission (2010-2014) includes a number of initiatives focusing on the creative industries.
PPL’s response
PPL welcomed the EU Work Programme's Digital Agenda, provided it tackles online piracy, and made several recommendations to encourage new licensing models.
PPL also advocated removing the barriers that are holding back the digital market and closing the gaps in the copyright framework. We recommend bringing competition policy up-to-date, improving copyright education and using trade policy to develop the international copyright framework.
