The VPL AGM took place on 24 November 2009, as the formal annual meeting of our music video licensing business.

Following the July 30th 2009 hearing, the Copyright Tribunal has now published its decision in regard to the rates paid to music licensing organisation PPL, on behalf of performers and record companies, for the right to play music on TVs and radios in public in the hospitality sector (pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, hotels, shops) and offices & factories.

In The City is one the most important event in the music industry calendar.  Delegates from all around the world will descend to Manchester from the 18th - 20th October to get a glimpse of the emerging talent within the UK music scene and take part in the numerous panels and discussions that are on offer.

A step towards broadcast royalties for artists in the US came a step closer to being granted last night. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved legislation to make radio stations pay royalties to performers when they broadcast their music.

Jill Melling from Devon was the lucky winner of the PPL competition to meet West End singing sensation and PPL member Michael Ball after watching him perform in the smash hit musical Hairspray on Friday night (July 17th).

PPL is pleased to announce that four of our senior managers have recently qualified for their Level 5 Award in Management which is the equivalent to a foundation degree level.

PPL's Senior Data Analyst celebrated 20 years of service at PPL this week, Kirk Annett joined the company in 1989 as a Licensing Officer and has worked in various areas of the company before taking up his current position in 2006.  In this role he ensures that record company and performer members get paid the correct revenue.

At a meeting of the FIM Europe Group held in Bucharest on April 4/5 2009 the assembled representatives of European musicians’ unions adopted the following statement:

At a reception at The Stanhope Hotel, Brussels, organised by UK music licensing company PPL and attended by musicians, MEPs, the Czech EU Presidency, the European Commission, Permanent Representatives and Council members, performers sent a clear message that they want a fair copyright term – fair in relation to other artists and fair in relation to the USA.

PPL Member John Martyn has unfortunately passed away at the age of 60.
