In September 2004 the Official Charts Company (OCC) launched the first digital download chart. From launch to the present day, the PPL Repertoire Database has been the official supplier of digital track and bundle data to OCC.
Digital music sales are now firmly embedded in the Official Singles and Album charts and the market analysis that sits behind the charts. It is therefore more important than ever that labels register their digital tracks and digital bundle data with PPL Repertoire Database prior to release.
For any release to qualify for the Official Charts, PPL Repertoire Database must be provided with the correct ISRC codes (for tracks) and barcodes (for bundles) in addition to other relevant label copy such as track, title and label information.
This information is used by OCC to identify sales information submitted by digital retailers and therefore it is crucial that your data is submitted to PPL Repertoire Database accurately and at least 3 weeks in advance of the official release date. Incorrect or incomplete data could lead to a release failing to chart or charting lower than it would have done if the information had been correct and on time. If you are a subscriber to OCC’s data services it may also mean that your release fails to feature in the official midweek chart, and could also impact on your label market share results.
Digital track downloads now form the vast majority of sales for the Official Singles Chart and sales of digital albums are also increasing at a rapid pace meaning that your information flow to PPL Repertoire Database is essential to ensure that OCC monitor your repertoire accurately.
