30 Oct 2019, London – PPL, PRS for Music and PRS Foundation are joining forces at BBC Music Introducing Live to create OnTrack, a space for people looking to build a career in and make money from music.

OnTrack, aimed at those who write, perform, or release music, will provide expert advice and insights as well as play host to live performances. OnTrack features:

  • Three days of talks and panels from established artists, leading record producers and A-list songwriters, offering guidance that will help others take their career to the next level.
  • Performances from up-and-coming artists, such as Emma McGrath.
  • Representatives from each organisation will be on hand to provide attendees with information about how PPL, PRS for Music and PRS Foundation can support their aspirations at different stages of their music careers.

The trio of organisations will host a Happy Hour from 4pm-5pm each day to help those looking to network with professionals from various corners of the business.

PPL and PRS for Music both license the use of music and collect royalties in the UK and around the world, supporting music careers by paying those who invest their time and talent into making music. PPL pays these royalties to performers on a recording, as well as to the recording rightsholder, while PRS for Music pays royalties to the writers/composers of a musical work and music publishers. PRS Foundation is the UK’s leading charitable funder of new music and talent development and has supported over 6,700 new music artists and projects since 2010.

About PPL

Founded in 1934, PPL is the UK music industry’s collective management organisation (CMO) for over 110,000 performers and record companies. We license recorded music in the UK when it is played in public (shops, bars, nightclubs, offices etc.) or broadcast (BBC, commercial radio, commercial TV etc.) and ensure that revenue flows back to our members. These include both independent and major record companies, together with performers ranging from emerging grassroots artists through to established session musicians and influential festival headliners.

We also collect performance rights internationally when music is played in public and used on TV, radio and some online streaming services, as well as for private copying. This is achieved through our network of 92 agreements with CMOs around the world. International revenues are an increasingly important revenue stream for performers and recording rightsholders – since 2006 we have collected £429.1 million.

In 2018 we collected £246.8 million while also distributing money to 105,192 performers and recording rightsholders.
