With over fifteen years’ experience in strategic communications, brand building and digital content, Ibbotson is passionate about the power of effective communication to drive growth and create positive change.

The senior appointment will see Ibbotson report to PPL CEO Peter Leathem OBE, and join the Executive Management Team of the global licensing company. The role will contribute significantly to the organisation’s strategic growth objectives, shaping how music licensing and the importance of fair pay for performers and recording rights owners is understood around the world, whilst advocating on behalf of PPL’s 140,000 members and the wider music industry.

Peter Leathem OBE, Chief Executive Officer at PPL, said: “The combination of Suzi’s strong commercial acumen, global communications experience and fresh perspective on the music industry will add significant strength to PPL’s Executive Management Team. Together with her talented team, she will further grow and develop PPL’s visibility and reach, ensuring the music community is aware of the important role PPL plays in supporting music careers, driving improved data standards across the business, and growing the neighbouring rights sector around the world. I’m really delighted to welcome Suzi on board to join us in our mission of standing up for music rights.”

Ibbotson held several roles during the past decade at Unilever, from heading up communications for the 6000-strong marketing team, through to managing the company’s content and external channels, engaging millions of people in the company’s mission and the work of its 400+ brands. She led digital campaigns to launch the company’s new sustainability commitments around plastic, climate and nature and improving living standards, and was responsible for the global programme to empower and enable employees to advocate online. Before joining Unilever, Ibbotson worked across the private, public, and higher education sectors in a variety of communications, marketing, and events positions.

Speaking of her appointment, Suzi Ibbotson said: “Standing up for those who invest their time, talent, and money into making music is at the heart of PPL’s purpose and I am thrilled to join the organisation in this mission. It’s an exciting time for PPL as it approaches its 90th anniversary in 2024; the company’s achievements over the last nine decades have been many and significant, and I’m proud to be at the helm of sharing its stories, achievements and ambitions for the future. With a longstanding love of music, I cannot wait to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in to making a positive impact for our members and industry partners in the months and years ahead.”
