Robin Firman and Horace Trubridge elected to the PPL Performer Board

Category:

On Tuesday 27 November 2018 at the twelfth PPL Annual Performer Meeting (APM), performers elected Robin Firman and Horace Trubridge as Performer Directors, who will sit on both the PPL Performer Board and main PPL Board. Dave Jago, Ashley Mason and Christine Payne also stood in the election.

PPL created these two elected Performer Director positions to replace two previous Performer Director positions for which the directors used to be chosen by, respectively, Equity and the Musicians’ Union.

Those previous positions were held by Christine Payne (as General Secretary of Equity) and Horace Trubridge (as General Secretary of the MU).  Following the election result, Horace Trubridge will remain on the PPL Performer Board and main PPL Board but now as an elected Performer Director, and Robin Firman will now sit alongside him in place of Christine Payne, together with four other Performer Directors.

The meeting, held this year at Maida Vale Studios, included an address by PPL Chair John Smith, and reports from Chief Executive Officer Peter Leathem, Director of Member Services Sarah Mitchell and Director of International Laurence Oxenbury. There was also a Q&A session for those present.

The APM was accompanied by the publication of PPL’s Annual Performer Review, looking back over the previous financial year. Key financial highlights from 2017 included PPL’s overall revenue reaching £218.8 million (3 per cent up on 2016) and net distributable revenue growing to £180.5 million (1 per cent up on 2016), with a record total of nearly 90,000 performers and 9,000 recording rightsholders receiving a payment.

Peter Leathem, CEO, PPL commented: “2017 was another record breaking year for PPL. I would like to thank the Performer Board and main PPL Board for their ongoing commitment, dedication and support.

In particular, my thanks go to Christine Payne, as an outgoing Performer Director, for her valuable contribution over the years. I would also like to thank the other candidates who stood in the election, and extend my congratulations and welcome to Robin Firman as a newly-elected Performer Director. I look forward to working closely with Robin, together with Horace Trubridge in his new capacity as an elected Performer Director.”
