PPL to administer Blossoms international collections

Category:

Blossoms have gone from strength to strength since taking fourth place on the BBC’s Sound of 2016 list. Their debut album, released in August that year, went straight to No.1 and earned them a Mercury Prize nomination and a sold-out tour. A second and third album followed, with the latter again topping the charts and delivering a tour that sold out in minutes. In an era where solo artists dominate the charts, Blossoms have bucked the trend and cemented themselves as a critically acclaimed act.

PPL offers a highly competitive, commercially-minded neighbouring rights service which Blossoms will now benefit from, working to ensure the band is paid when their recorded music is played outside of the UK. The company has over 100 agreements in place with collective management organisations (CMOs) across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America, and a team of neighbouring rights experts who manage the rights of over 100,000 performers and recording rightsholders who have asked PPL to collect their royalties internationally. The company has also invested heavily in cutting-edge technology that further improves data accuracy, data processing and helps revenues reach music creators more efficiently.

Peter Leathem, Chief Executive Officer at PPL said: “We are looking forward to helping Blossoms maximise their neighbouring rights royalty income. The global industry for these rights has grown substantially over the last decade, making them a significant income for performers around the world. PPL is well placed to help Blossoms and the many performers we represent benefit from this growth. Our leading technology and data infrastructure make our royalty payments efficient, while our team of neighbouring rights experts ensure that our members’ rights are represented comprehensively around the world. The quality of our work is reflected in the scale of our collections – in 2019 we collected £86.7m internationally for our members. We welcome Blossoms to PPL and are delighted they have chosen us to represent them.”
