Today’s payment comprises UK monies and international revenues collected from 53 collective management organisations (CMOs) around the world.
The largest payments to performers this quarter came from CMOs in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and the USA. This distribution cycle also includes revenues from Latin American countries including El Salvador, Guatemala and Paraguay.
Performers have also received a significant payment from Italian CMO Nuovo Imaie, following the resolution of a long-running dispute between publishers and labels over private copying revenues generated by airplay between 2009 and 2019.
Recording rightsholders are receiving significant payments from France, Denmark, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain and the USA. They are also benefitting from first-time payments from Panorama (formerly SOPROQ), one of Canada’s two rightsholder CMOs.
As part of continuous efforts to improve efficiencies in data exchange around the world, PPL introduced improvements to the systems used to declare repertoire, contributing particularly to faster pay-through rates from SCPP in France.
This quarter’s payment includes more than £2.1 million from the licensing of music videos when they are broadcast on television or played in public, distributed through PPL’s sister company, VPL. The revenue relates to the use of music videos on MTV channels across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
